Error Collecting
Want to do something out of the ordinary? How about collecting errors from a specific coin series?
I’ve always been fascinated by the different forms of errors that can be found on coins, from small clips to coin images/denominations being stamped on the wrong metal.
If you’re going to venture in to this field, pick one coin series to focus on. Learn about the different error types, extent of errors, values by degrees of error and rarity of different types of errors. Your collecting budget should remain within a comfortable level for “uncertified” pieces, yet go a little higher if you’re focusing in on certified pieces and those “rare” combinations.
Remember, only deal with vendors that have good track record and are willing to share their knowledge with you. Be sure you’re comfortable with the trade before you go through with it as reproductions and non-mint made errors do exist, and are sold under the “error coin” label.
Good luck and have fun!
